On the afternoon of June 9, 2026, local time,  General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President Xi Jinping concluded his state visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and departed from Pyongyang. General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un, along with his wife Ri Sol Ju, went to the airport to see Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan off and held a grand farewell ceremony in their honor.

Along the route to the airport, people from all walks of life in Pyongyang gathered on both sides of the road, waving the national flags of China and the DPRK as well as flowers. They chanted slogans of friendship between the two countries to give a warm send-off.

At the airport, thousands of people and children stood in neat formation to give a warm welcome. To the tune of inspiring and uplifting music, Xi Jinping, accompanied by Kim Jong Un, inspected the honor guard, shook hands one by one with high-ranking DPRK officials who had come to see them off, and waved to the crowds. Xi Jinping and his wife shook hands once again with Kim Jong Un and his wife for an affectionate farewell before boarding the special plane to depart from Pyongyang.
